Manchester United Finalizes Choice for New Manager, Plans Appointment Within 48 Hours, Reveals Start Date

Manchester United has finalized its choice for a new manager and plans to announce the appointment within 48 hours, revealing the start date.

On 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7, The Mirror and Daily Mail, two prominent UK media outlets, reported that Manchester United, the Premier League giant, has decided on a new manager to replace Ruben Amorim, who was recently dismissed.

Initially, Manchester United summoned Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, two former fan-favorite players and previous club coaches, to meet with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, two senior executives, to consider who would serve as interim manager until the season's end.

According to recent sources, Manchester United has officially chosen Michael Carrick. The Mirror revealed that a key reason Ole Gunnar Solskjær was not selected was due to several senior players rejecting the Norwegian coach's return for a second stint.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail disclosed that Manchester United plans to announce Michael Carrick as interim manager within the next 48 hours. Following significant progress in negotiations, Carrick traveled today to discuss final details to formalize his coaching role.

However, reports indicate that Manchester United might not officially announce Michael Carrick's appointment today. Current negotiations focus on his supporting staff, with some details still pending agreement.

Nevertheless, Michael Carrick and his team are expected to begin managing Manchester United's training sessions on Wednesday, 14 Jan 2026 GMT+7, after players return from a two-day break. This preparation leads up to the Manchester derby at home against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, 17 Jan 2026 GMT+7.
