Milos Kerkez, Liverpool's left-back, has stepped forward to quell criticism about his lack of chemistry with Cody Gakpo, affirming there is no problem coordinating on the left wing. He also stressed that he is still not satisfied with his own form and wants to continue improving.
On 21 January 2026, Milos Kerkez, Liverpool's left-back, candidly admitted that he remains dissatisfied with his performance since joining Anfield but confirmed that his form has been steadily improving recently. He also denied criticism suggesting a lack of understanding with Cody Gakpo on the left flank.
The 22-year-old Hungarian international spoke at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League away match against Olympique Marseille, commenting that adapting to a new club takes time.
“When you join one of the biggest clubs in the world, everyone needs time to adjust. I have received support from everyone, from the manager and players to the staff,” Kerkez said.
Although he has recently established himself as the first-choice left-back ahead of Andrew Robertson and has been part of Liverpool’s 12-match unbeaten run, he still insists he wants to improve further.
“In the past month, I have developed in many areas, that’s true, but I am not satisfied yet. I want more, and everyone will help me achieve that.”
At the same time, Kerkez responded to questions about the scrutiny over his coordination with Cody Gakpo after criticism that the pair have yet to gel on the pitch.
“I don’t think it’s a problem. I believe I play well with Cody. I wouldn’t call it a problem at all.”
“My role is to support the winger, create space, make overlapping runs, and get forward to open up areas for him. Then it’s up to him to make decisions. We have no issues between us.”
Kerkez also emphasized that he and Gakpo communicate regularly during training and continuously work together on tactics.
“We talk all the time during practice. We rehearse attacking moves together. There really is no problem.”
