Arne Slot, Liverpool's manager, is unsure whether Joe Gomez will be able to return to play after sustaining an injury in the match against Bournemouth.
On 25 Jan 2026 GMT+7, following Liverpool's 2-3 away loss to Bournemouth in the 2025/26 Premier League on Saturday, the team stands fourth in the table with 36 points from 23 matches. This result extends their winless streak in league play to five matches in a row (four draws, one loss).
During the 35th minute of the game, Joe Gomez collided with teammate goalkeeper Alisson Becker, forcing Gomez off the field to be replaced by Wataru Endo. Meanwhile, the Brazilian goalkeeper played on until the end despite not being at full fitness.
Arne Slot spoke about Joe Gomez, saying it is difficult to estimate how soon he will be able to return to training, as the situation is hard to assess immediately.
"Joe Gomez sustained an injury from a bone-to-bone collision with Alisson, making it impossible for him to continue playing. It is uncertain if he can resume training at this time; it’s difficult to evaluate right now," Slot said.
"As for Alisson, he has a swollen knee and will need further examination to assess his condition," he added.
