Michael Carrick, Manchester United's manager, spoke candidly after leading the team to an away victory over Arsenal in the latest Premier League match.
Michael Carrick, interim manager of the "Red Devils" Manchester United, expressed great pride in his players after their 3-2 away win over Arsenal in the English Premier League last night, praising especially the goals scored by Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha.
Carrick said, "Today was a good day. I think we had to give our all in this game. Credit goes to the kids—I’m very proud of them. We had to withstand continuous attacks, especially early on, and we gradually adapted to the game."
"We faced obstacles but bounced back. We encountered challenges again late in the game but recovered once more. There were many positive elements in this match. It’s only been 10 days; we know it won’t be perfect—especially against a team like Arsenal. You can’t expect to come here and completely control possession. We’re just starting, and this is a good beginning. There are many positives we can build on and develop further in the coming days and weeks."
"The players did excellently in terms of responsibility, determination, and commitment. You could see how much it meant to them at the end. I’m very proud of them today."
Regarding the goals by Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha: "Honestly, both goals were outstanding. Dorgu’s goal was incredible, and Cunha’s goal—when he received the ball, I was confident he would score. It was an excellent finish and a very important moment."
On how to instill confidence in the team: "I think it comes down to the message we send and making them believe in it. I believe in them and try to show that. It’s not just words. It’s easy for me to say something to the players or talk about the game, but having the feeling to actually act on it is very important. They definitely have that, and we need to maintain it."
On the chance to become permanent manager: "Nothing has changed. I’ve only been here less than two weeks, and I’m eager to perform well, develop the team, and finish as high as possible. Days like today and last week are what we want, and we want to keep achieving that in the weeks ahead."
This victory has moved Manchester United up to 4th place in the league standings.
