Kunya Reveals Carricks Inspirational Words That Helped Man United Rally to Beat League Leaders Arsenal

Matheus Cunha credited Michael Carrick for fostering unity within Manchester United after their 3-2 comeback win over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

On 26 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Matheus Cunha, Manchester United's striker, praised interim manager Michael Carrick for inspiring team unity after the “Red Devils” came from behind to beat Premier League leaders Arsenal 3-2 at Emirates Stadium.

In the match, Man United initially trailed due to an own goal by Lisandro Martinez but turned the game around with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu, before Mikel Merino equalized for Arsenal late in the game.

However, less than three minutes later, Cunha became the hero by scoring the winning goal, securing three crucial points and marking Man United’s first away league victory over Arsenal since 2005.

Additionally, Man United became the first away team to score at least two long-range goals outside the penalty area against Arsenal in a league match since Tottenham achieved this in 2008.

After the game, Cunha praised the interim manager on BBC Match of the Day, saying he truly understands the club’s heart.

“He knows well what it means to be Manchester United because he played here for many years. He understands what the team and fans want to see.”

“He constantly communicates with us, helping us understand the situation and saying ‘everyone is against us,’ which made us feel more united.”

The Brazilian striker also acknowledged that Arsenal is currently the strongest team in the world but said Man United showed true fighting spirit.

“They have played under Arteta for a long time and know all the tactics, but we are Manchester United and everything we do is for victory.”

This win marked Manchester United’s second consecutive league victory under Carrick, following their home win over Manchester City last weekend, and their first away league win against the league leaders since 2021.
