Red Devils Are Back! Maguire Praises Carrick for Transforming Manchester United After Wins Over Man City and Arsenal

Harry Maguire admitted that the 3-2 victory over Arsenal was a great achievement after Manchester United, under Michael Carrick's management, secured six full points from two consecutive big games.

On 26 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Harry Maguire, Manchester United's captain and defender, spoke after leading the team to a 3-2 away win over Premier League leaders Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. He also received Man of the Match honors as Manchester United climbed into the top four, surpassing Liverpool and Chelsea.

This victory marked back-to-back league wins under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, following their recent home win over second-placed Manchester City in the Manchester Derby.

After the game, Maguire told Sky Sports that this was a very meaningful win for the team.

“It’s truly a big moment. We knew that the first derby match at Old Trafford had everyone ready to fight, and sometimes a single match result can happen, but we needed to prove ourselves again.”

“Before the game, we talked about facing the league leaders who have performed excellently all season. They pose challenges throughout the match.”

“But coming here, being pegged back late on, then scoring the winning goal—that’s an outstanding performance.”

The England international defender also praised Michael Carrick for clearly creating a new atmosphere within the team.

“Michael came in and did an excellent job. He brought new energy to the team, and the squad has become more united.”

“These two games were very tough. Many probably thought we wouldn’t take many points, but winning both matches is truly fantastic.”

The victory over Arsenal made Manchester United the first team in several years to consecutively defeat both second-placed Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal away, signaling a clear return to competing for a UEFA Champions League spot.
