Just Two Wins Not Enough! Roy Keane Unreservedly Criticizes Carrick, Says Hes Unsuitable as Manchester Uniteds Permanent Manager

Roy Keane openly criticized Michael Carrick, saying that although Carrick led Manchester United to two consecutive wins, it is still not enough for the legendary captain to believe he is the right person for the permanent manager role.

On 26 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Roy Keane, the legendary Manchester United captain, openly criticized after Micah Richards questioned whether Michael Carrick is suitable for the permanent manager position of the "Red Devils" following the team's 3-2 away victory over Arsenal in the Premier League.

This win marked Carrick's second consecutive victory since taking over as interim manager, replacing Rúben Amorim who was dismissed earlier this month. However, Keane completely disagreed that the former England midfielder should be given a long-term role.

Keane said on Sky Sports' Super Sunday program,

“This job? No, you're talking nonsense.”

“Yes, they played well in two games, but anyone can win two games. It’s about long-term performance. Even if they finish fourth, I’m still not convinced he is right for the job.”

The former United captain added,

“I still think the club needs a bigger and better manager, but Carrick has been given a golden opportunity and he’s grabbing it. He deserves credit for that.”
