Liverpool in Talks to Sign Attacking Player Before Winter Transfer Deadline

Liverpool is in talks to sign an attacking player as reinforcement before the winter transfer deadline.

On 1 Feb 2026 GMT+7, David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, two transfer market experts, reported that Liverpool, a leading Premier League club, is moving forward to sign Dutch right-back Lutsharel Geertruida before this winter transfer window closes.

Liverpool is short on right-backs after Conor Bradley and Jeremy Frimpong suffered long-term injuries. This forced the use of Dominic Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Curtis Jones as temporary solutions, but manager Arne Slot wants a professional right-back to replace them.

Recently, Fabrizio Romano stated, "Liverpool is negotiating to sign Lutsharel Geertruida as a new defender and has made initial contact with Sunderland."

"Since Arne Slot knows him well from his time managing Feyenoord, he is an appealing option. Liverpool is negotiating with the club over contract terms and details. Slot wants a new right-back or center-back."

Meanwhile, David Ornstein revealed, "Liverpool is considering signing Lutsharel Geertruida. An opportunity has been presented to the Anfield club, and negotiations are ongoing about a loan deal to replace Sunderland, who currently have him on loan from RB Leipzig."

"Sunderland is looking for a replacement should the Dutch international leave."

Lutsharel Geertruida, 25, is on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig this season. He has played 17 matches, starting 10 and coming off the bench in 7, but remains a backup to Nordi Mukiele. He can play right-back, center-back, and defensive midfield.
