Revealed: One major club tried to outbid others to sign "Jérémy Jaqet" but was too late as the player had already chosen "Liverpool".
On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, it was revealed that Manchester United, known as the "Red Devils," was the club hoping to outbid others to sign Jérémy Jaqet, the promising French defender from Rennes in France's Ligue 1, but missed out because the player had already agreed to join Liverpool, their eternal rivals.
This was disclosed by Florian Plettenberg, a well-known journalist from Sky Germany, who reported that Manchester United attempted to compete for Jaqet on Sunday evening but failed, as the defender had already agreed with Liverpool. This excludes Chelsea, who had approached earlier this year seeking an immediate transfer deal, but the club was unwilling to sell mid-season, causing that deal to fall through and Liverpool to succeed.
Jérémy Jaqet, widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders of this era, has transferred from Rennes to Anfield for a total fee including options of £60 million, approximately 2.581 billion baht. The player will officially join the team in the upcoming summer.
