Jamie Carragher has admitted he was wrong and apologized to a Liverpool star after previously criticizing him severely, comparing him to two Manchester City legends.
On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Jamie Carragher, the former footballer turned pundit, publicly apologized to Florian Wirtz, the German star of Liverpool in the English Premier League. Carragher had earlier criticized Wirtz harshly but now compared him to former Manchester City players Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.
Back in the summer, Florian Wirtz transferred from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany's Bundesliga to Anfield for a fee including options totaling £116 million, approximately 5.002 billion baht. Initially, his performance was disappointing, showing no positive impact in goals or assists and sometimes being dropped to the bench. However, he has gradually returned to excellent form.
Recently, Jamie Carragher said, "At first, he faced obstacles but now he is beginning to show his quality. There is no doubt about his great potential. The Premier League has lost midfielders of Kevin De Bruyne's level, but now someone close has arrived—that is Florian Wirtz. He is the kind of player who can do the same, and perhaps resembles David Silva as well."
