Former World Cup Winner Criticizes Liverpools Signing of Jérémy Doku

A former World Cup-winning player has voiced criticism regarding Liverpool's signing of Jérémy Doku, a defender from Rennes.

Following Liverpool, the Premier League giants, reaching an agreement to sign French defender Jérémy Doku from Rennes for a total fee of £60 million, he is set to officially join the Reds after this season ends.

Recently, Christophe Dugarry, former French national team forward and 1998 World Cup winner, expressed his view that Liverpool fell victim to Rennes’ scheme by paying an exorbitant fee for Doku.

Dugarry said, “I don't intend to make the player feel bad. Honestly, it’s not his fault, and we wish him luck because he’s a good player. But I must commend Rennes—they found a victim in Liverpool and fooled them into paying €72 million (£60 million).”

“Let them continue doing this. English clubs like these are always ready to hand over tens of millions of euros.”

“It’s a football world gone mad. Stop pretending there’s any reason behind this. There’s absolutely no justification.”

Additionally, 53-year-old Dugarry predicted that Doku will face immense pressure due to Liverpool’s decision to snatch him away from Chelsea.

“Poor young Doku, this transfer will put a lot of pressure on him. He’s definitely a very good player, but this move comes with added pressure.”

“His performance will be viewed differently, even though he doesn’t deserve to face such scrutiny.”

“Those of us who understand football shouldn’t try to justify this fee by saying Liverpool has money or anything like that. It’s nonsense.”

“I don’t know what’s going on. It’s nonsense. It’s not about supply and demand. It’s just absurd.”
