The "Red Devils," Manchester United, are reportedly set on choosing a new midfielder with a £50 million price tag.
Sports Boom reports that Manchester United, the Premier League giant, is considering signing Matheus Mane, an English midfielder from Wolverhampton Wanderers, to Old Trafford this summer.
It is understood that Manchester United wants to strengthen their midfield this summer to replace the experienced Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who has left. They have also been linked with several other midfielders including Elliott Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Carlos Baleba of Brighton, and Adam Worthon of Crystal Palace.
However, the latest reports say that Manchester United's true target is 18-year-old Matheus Mane, who usually plays as a winger or number 10. Under current Wolves manager Rob Edwards, he has been playing as a central midfielder and has impressed greatly. His versatility is expected to strengthen the Red Devils' squad significantly.
Further reports indicate that many clubs are closely watching Mane’s situation, but Manchester United is among the frontrunners most likely to secure his signing. Preliminary talks with Wolverhampton about the possibility of this deal have already taken place.
Mane recently signed a new long-term contract with Wolverhampton until 2029, leading the club to value him at about £50 million. However, with Wolves currently at risk of relegation, there is a strong chance his price will drop significantly this summer.
Additionally, Manchester United has a good relationship with Wolverhampton, having previously signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million, who has become a key player for the Red Devils.
