Red adds to crisis! Romero was shown a red card and sent off five days after posting a critique calling Tottenham Spurs embarrassing.
On 7 Feb 2026 GMT+7, following the match where Tottenham Hotspur hosted Manchester City to a 2-2 draw amid numerous player injuries, Tottenham captain Cristian Romero posted criticism of the club after the team had only 11 first-team players available to play.
In that match, Romero played despite being ill but was substituted at halftime. Afterwards, he posted on Instagram praising his teammates while expressing frustration about the situation: "I wanted to help the team even though I was unwell because we only had 11 players available. It's unbelievable but true, and it’s embarrassing."
Romero will miss the next four games for Tottenham after receiving a red card in the 29th minute for a harsh tackle on Casemiro, reducing the team to 10 men. Tottenham then lost 0-2 to Manchester United in the Premier League’s 25th week of the 2025-26 season.
Additionally, statistics show that since joining Spurs in 2021, Romero has been sent off six times across all competitions, more than any other Premier League player during the same period.
