Liverpool stunned as the club receives latest bad news after last night's match.
On 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Liverpool, a leading Premier League club, faced bad news when Jeremy Jakhete, their prospective new defender, suffered an injury during a Ligue 1 match in France last night.
Liverpool announced the signing of 20-year-old promising defender Jeremy Jakhete from Rennes on the winter transfer deadline day, 2 Feb 2026 GMT+7, for a total fee of £60 million. He signed a five-year contract until 2031 with an option for an additional year, but Rennes will keep using him until the end of this season.
However, Jeremy Jakhete recently sustained a serious shoulder injury in last night's Ligue 1 game after falling awkwardly in the second half of the 1-3 loss to Lens. He appeared to be in significant pain when leaving the field in the 69th minute.
Rennes coach Abib Bay disclosed the injury conditions of Jeremy Jakhete and fellow defender Abdellhamid Et Boudlal, who was substituted early in the 29th minute, saying, "Jeremy has a shoulder injury, and Abdellhamid has a muscle injury.
"We will monitor their conditions, but certainly, both injuries are quite serious."
Previously, Liverpool also lost promising 19-year-old Italian defender Giovanni Leoni, signed from Parma last summer, who suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury requiring a one-year recovery during his debut match in the Carabao Cup third round, a 2-1 home win over Southampton in September.
