Confirmed: Skilled Coach Will Not Manage Man United as Latest Reports Reveal

Confirmed: "Skilled Coach" will not be managing "Man United" following the latest reports.

On 12 February 2026, The Times, a leading British media outlet, reported that Thomas Tuchel, the German coach and one of Manchester United's primary targets for the permanent manager position, is set to extend his contract with the England national team.

Manchester United plans to appoint a permanent manager this summer, despite caretaker manager Michael Carrick's excellent performance—remaining unbeaten in five matches (four wins, one draw). Thomas Tuchel was among the top candidates desired by the club's executives.

However, Manchester United has now lost the chance to bring Thomas Tuchel to Old Trafford, as The Times revealed that Tuchel has reached an agreement with The Football Association (FA) to extend his contract with the England national team.

Tuchel's current contract with England expires after the 2026 World Cup in July, but following an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign—winning all eight matches without conceding a goal, securing top spot in Group K without question—the FA decided to extend his contract.

Sources revealed that the FA will extend Tuchel's contract until 2028, with an official announcement expected today. This means Manchester United must look for a new option for their permanent manager appointment if they do not choose to retain Michael Carrick after this season.
