Hopeful Wait! Potter Updates on Isaks Condition After Fibula Fracture and Ankle Injury

Hopeful wait! Potter provides an update on Isak's condition, eagerly anticipating when he might return to play after a fibula fracture and ankle injury.

On 14 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Alexander Isak, the £125 million striker, showed signs of improvement in his ankle injury recovery. He has been accelerating his fitness program with weight training and light ball practice at the AXA Training Centre after sustaining an ankle ligament injury, including a fibula fracture, since December following a collision with Mickey van der Ven during Liverpool's 2-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Swedish national team striker has faced ongoing injury problems since transferring from Newcastle United on 1 September. Previously, he suffered a groin injury in October, limiting him to only 10 Premier League appearances and 2 goals this season.

Sweden national team head coach Graham Potter revealed he has been closely monitoring Isak's condition and there remains a chance he will be fit for the national team fixtures in March. Sweden is scheduled to face Ukraine on 26 March in the World Cup playoff semifinal.

Potter said, “I hope Isak will be able to play, but I have to admit this is a major injury and it’s very difficult to be ready by March. However, there is still a possibility.”

“Yes, I have spoken with him. He is recovering and hopeful. They are working hard with the club to try to get him ready to play for the national team in March.”
