Postecoglou admits his devotion to Liverpool and recalls the dream moment of leading Spurs to Anfield.
On 20 Feb 2026 GMT+7, 60-year-old Australian coach Ange Postecoglou openly admitted he has been "obsessed with Liverpool" since childhood, and that feeling has never faded—especially whenever he returns to Anfield.
The former head coach of Tottenham Hotspur revealed on the program Stick to Football that Liverpool was the center of his football world in his youth, with a pivotal moment in 1977 when Kenny Dalglish joined the team.
"I was crazy about Liverpool—call it an obsession. When Kenny arrived in 1977, it took things to another level," Postecoglou said.
He also recalled the deeply personal significance of leading Spurs on an away match to face the Reds at Anfield.
Postecoglou revealed that his father passed away while he was working in Japan, so he missed seeing his later successes, including managing Celtic F.C. and reaching the Premier League stage.
Before the game at Anfield, he intentionally arrived early to walk through the tunnel under the "This Is Anfield" sign. Then, as if in a dream, a voice called his name. Turning around, he saw his childhood idol Kenny Dalglish.
At that moment, he said he felt like he was that same boy again—the boy who had plastered Dalglish posters all over his bedroom walls.
"I promised myself I would walk through that tunnel for my father, as if to say, 'We’ve made it. We finally did it.' And I actually walked through Anfield’s tunnel, alongside Kenny Dalglish—the same man whose poster I once had on my bedroom wall."
