Man City Legend Jabs Man United, Boasts Pep Wont Let City Collapse Like Post-Alex Ferguson Era

Man City legend takes a jab at Man United, boasting that Pep leaving City won't cause a collapse like in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

On 21 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Sergio Aguero, former legendary striker for Manchester City, sharply criticized Manchester United and rejected the idea that if Pep Guardiola left as manager, the "Sky Blues" would decline like the "Red Devils" did after Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

The Athletic reported that Guardiola might consider stepping down after this season, completing 10 full years as manager at the Etihad Stadium. During his tenure, he led the team to six league titles and made club history by winning their first UEFA Champions League in 2023, achieving a remarkable treble.

These rumors have prompted the club to consider suitable successors, with Enzo Maresca among the candidates under close watch. However, Guardiola confirmed he is still uncertain about his future and declined to comment on any rumors.

Aguero told Stake, “Pep has repeatedly said in recent months that he still has one year left on his contract. So, it’s pointless to speculate whether he will leave after this season.”

“Whenever a highly successful manager departs, some changes are inevitable, but I believe Man City will know how to find an excellent replacement when the time comes.”

“A club of this level, firmly established among Europe’s elite, doesn’t depend solely on one manager. Whoever comes in will inherit a strong foundation to continue developing.”
