If it really happens, it would be a huge blow. A well-known Premier League club is reportedly at risk of losing 60 points if found guilty.
On 25 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, stated that Manchester City, the English Premier League giant nicknamed the "Sky Blues," could face a 40-60 point deduction if found guilty of violating financial rules in 115 charges.
Going back to February 2023, Manchester City was accused of breaching over 115 financial regulations from the 2009-10 season through to the 2017-18 season. Although the investigation has concluded, no verdict has yet been announced.
Maguire commented, “Looking at precedent cases, Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked 6 and 4 points respectively for a single breach covering three years. The allegations against Manchester City span nine years, so this is much more serious.”
“We’re still unsure about the exact numbers involved, but it’s expected to be substantial. I think you need to add a zero to what we saw in the Forest and Everton cases. So a points deduction between 40 and 60 would be reasonable considering the circumstances and consistent with past decisions.”
