West Ham Bans Adama Traoré from Weightlifting Due to Excessive Muscle Growth, Effective Immediately

West Ham United has banned speedy winger Adama Traoré from weightlifting after he gained excessive muscle mass from overdoing it.

On 3 Mar 2026 GMT+7, West Ham United, a prominent Premier League club led by Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo, reportedly ordered Adama Traoré to stop weightlifting immediately. This decision follows Traoré's significant muscle growth from excessive weight training, effective from today.

The club and Nuno Espírito Santo explained that Traoré's physique and muscle condition are already excellent due to genetics, and he currently carries sufficient body weight. Therefore, it is essential for him to maintain speed and agility, preventing excessive muscle mass from impairing his on-field performance and reducing injury risk. As a result, the club has directed him to focus more on flexibility training and general conditioning rather than weightlifting.

Adama Traoré recently transferred from Fulham, known as the "Cottagers," to West Ham United during the January 2026 winter transfer window. He has reunited with Nuno Espírito Santo, his former coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the "Wolves."
