Van Dijk has arrived with bold remarks as Liverpool remains in the hunt for two titles ahead of their UEFA Champions League campaign.
On 8 March 2026, Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool's captain and defender, spoke ahead of Liverpool's first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 away match against old rivals Galatasaray from Turkey on Tuesday, 10 March.
Liverpool recently avenged their Premier League defeat to Wolverhampton by winning 3-1 in the FA Cup fifth round, advancing to the quarterfinals. They await the draw on Monday, 9 March.
Liverpool is still competing for two trophies this season: the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Virgil van Dijk affirmed their determination to win the trophies for the "Reds" fans, saying, "Winning trophies is always our goal."
"I have been very fortunate to experience wonderful nights and win trophies with this beautiful club, and that is what we are striving for. This season has clearly been very challenging for many reasons, and I said from the start it would be a tough season."
"But now we have reached this point. We have improved, though of course sometimes we don’t perform well—that’s something we must accept in our process. That’s what we did (in the game against Wolves): we played well, we won, and we will focus on the next match."
"Now our focus is on the Champions League, where we face a very tough game, which will test our abilities again. But it is truly a pleasure to be back on the field, and we hope to achieve a good result."
Liverpool will have the chance to avenge their 0-1 away loss to Galatasaray in Turkey during the UEFA Champions League group stage second match last September.
