Nicky Butt, former Manchester United player, reveals the latest stance of Paul Scholes who has faced backlash after being seen posting a jab at Michael Carrick.
On 13 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Nicky Butt, former Manchester United player of the Premier League club, revealed Paul Scholes' latest reaction after facing backlash for a post perceived as mocking Michael Carrick following Carrick's team's 1-2 away defeat to ten-man Newcastle United in the recent Premier League match.
Nicky Butt said, “If you don’t know Paul Scholes personally or understand his character, some might say he’s gone too far. Honestly, I see his comment as saying 'You were just lucky but not good enough.' I think he meant well. Luck plays a very important role in football success and management. If you’re not a lucky manager, sometimes you won’t succeed. You need good players in the team, but you also need luck on your side.”
“That’s what he was trying to convey. I spoke with him, and he told me, ‘I swear I didn’t mean anything bad. I was shocked and upset because I really admire Michael Carrick—as a friend, teammate, and coach.’ I also wish Michael Carrick good luck and hope he gets the job permanently.”
