The "Red Devils," Manchester United, are reportedly preparing to release five prominent players from the team this summer.
CentreDevils reported that Manchester United, the Premier League giant, is set to offload five players signed by Erik ten Hag from Old Trafford this summer, even though they may incur significant losses.
Under Erik ten Hag's management, Manchester United spent £600 million on new signings, most of whom have underperformed, and the club is now seeking ways to recoup some of the expenditure.
The report states that Manchester United is looking to recover as much money as possible by accepting offers for five new players brought in by Erik ten Hag: Rasmus Højlund, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Ugarte, André Onana, and Mason Mount.
These five players joined the Theatre of Dreams for a combined total of £249.8 million, but it is unlikely that United will recover all of that investment.
Starting with Højlund, his transfer is almost guaranteed due to a purchase option in his loan contract with Napoli, activated if they qualify for the Champions League. Napoli is very satisfied with Højlund's performance, so Manchester United will likely recoup £38 million from the £64 million transfer fee paid, which, considering his 21-game goal drought last season, is considered a success.
Next is Gvardiol, whom United bought from Bologna for £36.5 million in 2024 and who is now attracting significant interest from Juventus, a Serie A powerhouse.
Manuel Ugarte, who also arrived in the same transfer window for £50.5 million from Paris Saint-Germain, has drawn little interest from other clubs due to underwhelming performances under Ten Hag, Rúben Amorim, and Michael Carrick. He has played only 56 minutes under Carrick's management.
André Onana appears likely to move permanently to Trabzonspor after losing his starting position to Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper, Senne Lammens. However, his transfer is complicated by United's high asking price of £43.8 million.
Finally, Mason Mount, despite performing well on the field after transferring from Chelsea for £55 million, has frequently suffered injuries, making it likely that he will not continue with the club.
