Man Utd must not sell! "Nicky Butt" urges keeping "Bruno" at all costs, saying injuries do not justify letting him go.
On 17 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Nicky Butt, legendary former Manchester United midfielder, urged the "Red Devils" to do everything possible to keep Bruno Fernandes at the club, warning that fans would be furious if he were sold.
This season, Bruno has been an indispensable key player under both Rúben Amorim and Carrick. He recently reaffirmed his importance by providing two assists in the weekend game, helping Michael Carrick’s team defeat Aston Villa 3-1 and move closer to a UEFA Champions League spot.
However, his future remains uncertain after he revealed in December that the club nearly sold him last summer amid interest from the Saudi league.
Bruno once explosively stated, "Manchester United wanted me to leave. I still remember that clearly. I felt that if I left, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for the club."
"Ronaldo advised me, but the final decision was always mine. I chose to stay because I truly love this club, though loyalty isn’t valued as it once was."
Meanwhile, Nicky Butt told The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast that the club must keep Bruno at any cost: "Man Utd absolutely cannot let him go. They have to give him everything he wants to stay, because if they sell him, the fans will go mad."
Butt also admitted he used to criticize Bruno’s "old-school" leadership style, often comparing him to former captains Roy Keane or Bryan Robson. Yet he acknowledged Bruno has carried the team for two years and currently performs flawlessly under Carrick’s management.
