During International Break, Review of Premier League Referees Errors Compared to Last Year

During the international break, an examination was conducted on how many errors Premier League referees have made, compared to last year.

On 27 Mar 2026 GMT+7, during the international break, an assessment was made of the number of errors committed by referees in the English Premier League, the world's most popular football league, in the 2025-26 season, with comparisons made to the previous 2024-25 season.

According to data from the Premier League's problem analysis committee, more referee errors have been found on the field and in the VAR room than last season. The independent committee, made up of five experts, analyzes issues each week and recently identified four additional errors.

This brings the total errors for the 2025-26 season to 54, which is ten more than the same period last season, when 44 errors were recorded. Nonetheless, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) remains positive, referencing 70 errors after 30 matches in the 2023-24 season.

Additionally, the number of VAR interventions has decreased from 89 to 83. It was also noted that VAR decisions have become 25% faster over the past three years, with average game stoppage time reduced from 64 seconds last season to just 48 seconds.
