Sandro Tonali, Newcastle midfielder, has reportedly made a decision after rumors linking him with Manchester United.
talkSPORT, a leading sports media outlet, reported that Sandro Tonali, the Italian international midfielder of Newcastle United, views a return to Italy's Serie A as his top option if he moves away from St James' Park this summer.
After winning the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season with AC Milan, Tonali transferred to Newcastle a year later for around 60 million euros. He has since proven himself as a top-tier midfielder in the Premier League and played a key role in helping Newcastle win the 2024-25 Carabao Cup.
However, the situation for Eddie Howe's team appears challenging. They currently stand 12th in the league table and are struggling to secure a spot in European competitions for next season.
Tonali wants to transfer, and with two years left on his contract, this might be Newcastle's last chance to receive a significant transfer fee for the 25-year-old player.
Tonali is Manchester United's top summer transfer target, as the Red Devils aim to replace Casemiro, who is set to leave after this season. However, recent reports indicate Tonali prefers a return to Serie A. Nevertheless, his £80 million price tag may be unaffordable for any Italian club.
Therefore, staying in the Premier League remains a strong possibility, with Manchester United as the frontrunner. However, United cannot underestimate Manchester City, who are also searching for a replacement for Rodri, who might transfer this summer.
