The court rejects Cardiff City's claim for 4.5 billion baht in damages, which they alleged caused their relegation, related to Emiliano Sala's death, and orders them to pay 17.3 million baht.
On 31 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the court in Nantes dismissed the claim by Cardiff City, an English league team, seeking damages of £104 million (about 4.5 billion baht), alleging their relegation from the English Premier League was due to Emiliano Sala's death in a plane crash, an event that shocked and saddened football fans worldwide.
Furthermore, the Nantes court ordered Cardiff City to pay £400,000 (approximately 17.3 million baht) to Nantes concerning the dispute over Emiliano Sala's death. This sum covers legal fees and moral damages and takes immediate effect.
Emiliano Sala, the Argentine striker, died in a plane crash in 2019 while traveling to join Cardiff City after transferring from Nantes during the January 2019 transfer window for a fee of £15 million (around 649 million baht).
