The "Red Devils" Manchester United are reportedly set to face a major problem if they secure a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League.
Global media outlet ESPN reports that Manchester United, the Premier League giant, is facing an issue concerning the future of goalkeeper André Onana, whose wages will rise if the team qualifies for next season's UEFA Champions League.
Onana was loaned out by the Red Devils to Trabzonspor in the Turkish league until the end of this season, but because there is no purchase option, the Cameroonian international goalkeeper is expected to return to Old Trafford this summer.
Originally, Onana's loan move to Trabzonspor was partly due to his acceptance of a reduced salary, but with Michael Carrick's team currently in third place in the Premier League and heading towards the Champions League, Onana's wage structure is set to increase again if he returns to the Theatre of Dreams.
Sources told ESPN that United is worried that the wage increase will make it harder to attract interest from other clubs for the 29-year-old goalkeeper.
As a result, the club might have to pay part of Onana's wages if they want to negotiate another transfer, whether a permanent move or another loan.
