Heartbreaking: "Jota's wife" reveals the last message she sent to her husband but he had not read it before his death.
On 3 April 2026, Rute Cardoso, wife of Diogo Jota, recently disclosed the last message she sent to her husband before the Liverpool forward, a star in the English Premier League, died in a car accident on 3 July last year.
Rute Cardoso married Diogo Jota at a church in Porto, Portugal, just 11 days before the accident that took her husband's life. After doctors advised him not to fly following surgery for an injury, he traveled by car to catch a ferry back to report to "The Reds," Liverpool, ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Rute Cardoso is set to reveal the final message she sent to her beloved husband in Diogo Jota’s biography, which will be published next week and released in Portugal on 9 April.
The book is written by former footballer José Manuel Delgado and is titled 'Nunca Mais e Muito Tempo,' which translates into English as 'Never Again Is a Long Time.'
Isabel Figueira, a Portuguese TV presenter, spoke about the biography, saying, "What touched me most when reading parts of the book was how Rute described the last message she sent to him, which Diogo never received."
"She said she had just received their wedding video and told him, 'Darling, call me when you arrive because I have something to show you.' And that was the video."
