The main cause was Fernandez's interview expressing his desire to move to Spain and his admiration for life there, which sparked rumors linking him to Real Madrid. Rosier viewed this as "overstepping" and immediately decided to suspend the player, starting from the FA Cup match where Chelsea crushed Port Vale 7-0 last weekend.
Rosier revealed that he has spoken privately with Fernandez 3-4 times, during which the player apologized to him and the club, emphasizing that football is a "team" sport and the club must come before personal matters.
