Michael Carrick, interim manager of Manchester United, spoke after leading the team to an away win against Chelsea in the latest English Premier League match.
Michael Carrick, manager of the "Red Devils" Manchester United, praised his players after their 1-0 away victory over Chelsea, the "Blues," in the latest English Premier League match, especially highlighting Nussair Mazraoui and Aiden Heaven, the emergency center-back pair, who performed beyond expectations.
Carrick said, "I cannot overlook this game. It was very important—a big win for us. They had some chances, but keeping a clean sheet and defending so well was due to thorough preparation with a new defensive lineup."
"I think the introduction of Aiden Heaven and Nussair Mazraoui was excellent. Aiden is still young, and Nussair hasn’t often played as a center-back in a back four. I have to credit the coaching staff for preparing the youngsters well for this game. I think the kids played exceptionally well tonight."
Regarding changes at the club: "I made them understand and appreciate what it means to play for this club. We can perform better; there is still a lot to develop, but we have results good enough to build momentum and lay foundations."
Speaking about Bruno Fernandes: "He has consistently maintained his standards, playing nearly every game. He is fit, eager for victory, and has to play a key role in midfield, but he’s also willing to do what the team needs. He has a strong personality; he’s captain for a reason. Sometimes leadership is about leading by example and showing the way. He speaks candidly and has a big influence on the pitch. He has been a vital part of this club over the years."
"Before the game, there were many obstacles—suspensions, injuries, various issues. I think the players’ attitude tonight was excellent. We wanted to win a big, important game, and the players responded very well."
On his future with the team: "I love being here. I understand the situation; some things are beyond my control. But you want to be part of nights like this, part of something special, building the team. I have no fixed timeframe."
This victory solidified Manchester United’s position in third place, increasing their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
