Freddie Woodman, Liverpool's goalkeeper, opened up after making his first Premier League start for Liverpool, helping the team beat Crystal Palace.
Freddie Woodman, Liverpool's third-choice goalkeeper, admitted he never expected to play for the Reds in the Premier League. He played a key role in helping the team secure a 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace at Anfield last night.
In the match, Woodman performed excellently, making a total of 5 saves. Two of those were very difficult, and one of these crucial saves led to a counterattack resulting in Liverpool's second goal scored by Andrew Robertson.
Woodman said, "It was an incredible moment for me. When I joined this club, I never thought I would play at Anfield in a Premier League game. I am a passionate Crystal Palace fan and still am, but I tried to help the team—Liverpool—as much as I could."
"I've trained continuously for this opportunity. When you play behind top-class players, it makes my job much easier."
Additionally, the 29-year-old Woodman spoke about the dramatic moment when he was injured just before Daniel Muñoz chipped the ball into the goal: "The pitch was quite dry and my knee got stuck on the ground. At that moment, I didn't know what to do, but in the end, it didn’t harm us, and these three points are very important."
