It’s over: "Manchester United star" has made a decision after previous rumors of being sold away from Old Trafford.
On 30 April 2026, Manchester United, a leading Premier League club, officially announced the contract extension of their academy graduate midfielder Kobby Mendy, who will remain at Old Trafford until June 2031.
Kobby Mendy is recognized as one of the best talents of his generation. He joined Manchester United’s academy in 2014 at age six. The 21-year-old has played 98 matches for the "Red Devils," scoring the winning goal in the 2024 FA Cup final against Manchester City (2-1), and has been called up to the England national team for Euro 2024.
Previously, Kobby Mendy was almost sold during Ruben Amorim’s tenure as the coach, due to not fitting into the former manager’s preferred three-defender system. However, after Michael Carrick became interim manager, the situation changed, leading to his contract renewal.
After signing the extension, Kobby Mendy said, "Manchester United has always been my home. This special club means everything to my family."
"I grew up seeing the impact our club has on our city, and I am ready to accept the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt."
"From The Cliff to Littleton Road to Carrington and finally Old Trafford, the journey has been incredible. I’m lucky to live my dream every day, driven by the same determination to succeed here as when I first joined training at six years old."
"We all feel a growing drive within the club. I am committed to stepping up and playing a role in helping Manchester United consistently fight for major trophies in the years ahead."
