What do the Red Devils think? A Manchester United star has chosen the permanent manager and cited three important reasons.
On 13 May 2026, Casemiro, the Brazilian national team midfielder, gave a recent interview on the "Rio Ferdinand Presents" YouTube channel hosted by Rio Ferdinand, the Manchester United legend, discussing various topics about the Premier League club.
One key topic was the permanent Manchester United manager position, which Casemiro will not experience working under, as his contract is ending and he plans to leave the Red Devils after this season.
Manchester United is considering whether to continue with interim manager Michael Carrick or appoint a new experienced head coach. Several prominent candidates have been linked, including Julian Nagelsmann (Germany national team), Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Marco Silva (Fulham), and Mauricio Pochettino (United States national team).
However, Casemiro believes Michael Carrick is still suitable for the permanent manager role at Manchester United after leading the team to secure a top-five finish in the Premier League, ensuring qualification for the UEFA Champions League. He explained three key reasons, saying, "It's a big problem because he deserves to stay. He truly deserves to continue."
"The team has played very well. He can win every game. The team improves every day, every match. So, for me, it's a big problem because, in my view, he deserves this opportunity."
"Especially for me, as he played in midfield and spoke to me as a fellow midfielder, which makes it easier. For me, he deserves this chance because the team plays with confidence and very well. We have won many big games, so I believe he deserves this opportunity."
"He has played at this level before. You know how players feel. Carlo Ancelotti is a great manager because he understands this; he played before, knows what players need to hear, and pushes them at the right moments. Carrick understands this too. So for me, he deserves it. Definitely, in my opinion, he should continue."
"He is very intelligent, but most importantly, he knows and understands the club."
