"The Red Devils," Manchester United, are reported to have removed a prominent player from their plans for next season.
ESPN, a leading global media outlet, reported that Manchester United, the Premier League giant, has no plans to include Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana in their first-team squad for the upcoming season.
Onana, aged 30, showed good form while on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor. The player himself hoped to return and compete for the number one goalkeeper spot with Senne Lammens next season. However, the latest reports indicate that Onana is not part of the club's plans.
Efforts to find a new club interested in Onana, who is contracted with the Red Devils until 2028, have begun. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick, the prospective permanent manager of Manchester United, is open to signing a new goalkeeper this summer.
Lammens has proven himself as the first-choice goalkeeper in his debut season after transferring from Royal Antwerp in September. However, United recognizes the need for a strong squad to compete in the UEFA Champions League, making it sensible to find a competitor for Lammens.
Nonetheless, Manchester United may face difficulties transferring Onana due to his salary. It is expected that Onana's wages will increase this summer, similar to other players on the team, following United's qualification for the Champions League, which could pose a challenge for interested clubs.
