Official: Pep Guardiola Decides to Leave Manchester City After This Season

Official: Pep Guardiola has decided to leave Manchester City after this season.

On 22 May 2026, Manchester City, a top team in the English Premier League, officially confirmed that Spanish manager Pep Guardiola will leave the club after the final match of the season, a home game against Aston Villa on Sunday, 24 May, before his current one-year contract expires.

Pep Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in July 2016 and has built a legacy of greatness at the Etihad Stadium over the past 10 years, leading the "Sky Blues" to win 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club's first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

This has made Pep Guardiola the most successful manager in the club's history. Although he will step down as Manchester City's head coach, the 55-year-old will continue his relationship with the City Football Group, the club's ownership consortium, by taking on a role as a global ambassador.

In this role, he will be able to provide technical advice to the various clubs within the group, as well as participate in special projects and collaborations.

The expected new manager of Manchester City is Enzo Maresca, former head coach of Chelsea and Leicester City, who reportedly has already agreed to a three-year contract.
