Manchester United has finalized its decision regarding Elliot Anderson in this summer's transfer market.
On 28 May 2026 GMT+7, Calciomercato, a renowned Italian transfer news outlet, reported that Manchester United, the Premier League club, has made its decision concerning Elliot Anderson, the English midfielder who is one of the top targets in this summer's transfer window.
Manchester United is preparing to withdraw from the pursuit of Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest refused to lower their £105 million asking price. Furthermore, it appears Manchester City is more likely to secure the deal, as the rival club is willing to meet the price, and the player himself shows greater interest in joining the "Sky Blues" rather than the "Red Devils."
According to recent sources, Manchester United plans to focus their efforts on Sandro Tonali, the central midfielder of Newcastle United, who is now one of their primary targets. They believe there is a higher chance of success with Tonali than with Elliot Anderson.
The reasoning is that Manchester United can offer Sandro Tonali the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League, whereas Newcastle United finished only 12th in the Premier League and did not qualify for any European competitions this season.
Additionally, AC Milan and Brescia, Tonali's former clubs in Italy's Serie A, lack the financial resources to bring him back to his home country as he desires. However, it is expected that Newcastle will demand a transfer fee between £80 million and £100 million from Manchester United for Tonali.
Manchester United aims to strengthen their midfield with at least two new signings to replace Casemiro, who is out of contract, and Manuel Ugarte, who is likely to be released after underwhelming performances. Recently, they have nearly completed the signing of Ederson, a Brazilian midfielder from Atalanta, as their first acquisition for around £38 million.
