Wayne Rooney has predicted that Manchester United will miss out on winning two trophies next season.
The trophies likely to be missed are the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Wayne Rooney, former England international striker, stated that Manchester United are not yet at the level to challenge for the English Premier League title next season, despite Michael Carrick having elevated the team to a third-place finish last season. He pointed out that finishing in the top four, winning the FA Cup, and performing well in the UEFA Champions League would be satisfactory.
Rooney said, "I think what Manchester United have been over the past few years has made it very difficult for fans to find happiness."
"But I think since Michael Carrick came in, there is renewed hope and confidence among United fans. They finished third, I think the signings they made were quite good, and now they are back in the Champions League again. Hopefully, they will sign a few more players who can help take them to the next level."
"I spoke with Carrick last week about expectations — the aim to win every competition they enter — but you have to be realistic as well."
"So I think if Manchester United finish in the top four next season, possibly compete for trophies like the FA Cup, and try to perform well in the Champions League, that would be progress for them."
"We all want them to win the league, but you have to be realistic and ask: will they win the league? Will they win the Champions League? I think it will be very difficult, but in terms of attitude, it is a step forward."
