Liverpool Moves Quickly to Appoint New Manager Following Sack of Klopp

Liverpool is moving swiftly and is close to securing a new manager after dismissing Arne Slot from the position.

On 30 May 2026, Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in player markets and transfer news, revealed that Liverpool, currently 5th in the English Premier League, is close to appointing a new manager after announcing the dismissal of Arne Slot.

Fabrizio Romano stated, "Andoni Iraola is close to becoming Liverpool's new manager, succeeding Arne Slot. Negotiations are progressing rapidly, and an internal decision has been made that Liverpool wants only Iraola to replace Slot."

Meanwhile, David Ornstein, a Tier 1 journalist from The Athletic, and Ben Jacobs, a well-known journalist from TalkSport, both reported that Andoni Iraola is the top contender for the Liverpool head coach position vacated after Arne Slot's sacking on Saturday.

The Spanish coach is the leading candidate, but Stuttgart's coach Sebastian Hoeness and Lens manager Pierre Sacz are also considered options.

At 43 years old, Andoni Iraola caught Liverpool's attention after an excellent spell managing Bournemouth, especially last season when they finished 6th in the Premier League, just 3 points behind Liverpool. This was the club’s best performance in its 127-year history and earned them a spot in the Europa League for the first time.
