"The Red Devils," Manchester United, are reportedly preparing to sign a Premier League top scorer to join their team.
Caught Offside, a well-known football media outlet, reported that "The Red Devils," Manchester United, a Premier League giant, are considering signing Jean-Philippe Mateta, the French international striker from Crystal Palace—the recent Conference League champions—to Old Trafford this summer.
It is understood that Manchester United plans a major squad reinforcement to prepare for the UEFA Champions League next season. Last season, United played only 40 games as they had no European cup matches, but their schedule may be much busier next season, potentially exceeding 60 matches across all competitions.
Currently, Benjamin Sesko is the team's first-choice striker, but the club lacks a suitable competitor. Joshua Zirkzee has not performed well since his transfer from Bologna two years ago. Recent reports state that the Red Devils plan to sign Mateta to replace Zirkzee.
Mateta is among the most sought-after players, and many predict he will leave Palace this summer, despite their qualification for the Europa League by winning the Conference League.
Mateta has been one of the Premier League's standout strikers in recent years under coach Oliver Glasner. He scored 48 goals in England's top league over the past three seasons. The 2025/26 season was somewhat inconsistent for him due to a lengthy knee injury, but he still managed 16 goals in all competitions.
Mateta would be a strong addition to United, known for his aerial ability and physical presence up front. He excels in positioning and has an impressive goal-scoring record inside the penalty area. His current transfer value is around £30 million.
