Manchester United fans are in an uproar after news emerged that this surplus player is preparing to rejoin the club again.
Fabrizio Romano, the renowned Italian journalist, reported that Cameroon national team goalkeeper André Onana is set to return to the "Red Devils," Manchester United, this summer and will join preseason training under Michael Carrick's management. However, his long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain because Trabzonspor is still trying to secure the Cameroonian goalkeeper on loan again for the 2026-27 season.
After spending the 2025-26 season on loan with the prominent Turkish club, Onana is expected to rejoin United in July to prepare for the new season. Nevertheless, multiple reports indicate his return may be temporary, with Manchester United and Trabzonspor expected to renegotiate a one-year extension of his loan deal.
Onana's loan move to Trabzonspor last September came after a difficult period at Manchester United, where several costly errors cost him his starting position, especially following the arrival of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who has become United's first-choice keeper.
During his time in Turkey, Onana regained confidence and secured a starting role at Trabzonspor, playing over 30 matches across all competitions. His strong performances have prompted Trabzonspor's management to pursue another loan deal.
Although no agreement has yet been reached, the Turkish club remains optimistic that negotiations will yield a positive outcome in the coming weeks.
From Manchester United’s perspective, the situation is quite clear: Onana is not a key part of Michael Carrick’s future plans. It is believed United is willing to consider a permanent sale or another loan if suitable terms can be agreed upon, as the club seeks to reduce wage expenses and invest in team improvements now that it has returned to the UEFA Champions League.
