Liverpool, known as the "Reds," have been reported to suffer a complete disappointment as their target player has agreed to join another club.
Fabrizio Romano, the highly reliable journalist, declared the phrase "HERE WE GO!!!" Denzel Dumfries, the attacking right-back for the Netherlands national team and Inter Milan, has agreed to transfer to Real Madrid, the Spanish La Liga giant, after Real Madrid paid the 20 million euro release clause to Inter.
Earlier reports from multiple sources indicated that Dumfries prioritized joining Real Madrid over Liverpool, who were also seeking a new right-back and had frequently been linked with Dumfries. Ultimately, Dumfries fulfilled his intention by donning the white jersey.
There was some confusion over the amount Real Madrid would pay, as many reports cited the release clause at 25 million euros. However, this was only partly true because Sportitalia reported last year that the clause started at 20 million euros, effective from 1 July, then gradually increased every five days, reaching a maximum of 30 million euros on 15 July.
Because Real Madrid negotiated the deal quickly, the release clause fee for Dumfries remained at just 20 million euros, which was still acceptable for Inter, who had acquired Dumfries from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 for only 14.75 million euros.
It is expected that Real Madrid will officially announce the signing of Dumfries as early as next week, following the club’s presidential election on Sunday.
Subsequently, Inter will be able to begin investing in a replacement for Dumfries, with Atalanta full-back Marco Pašalić their top target, priced at 50 million euros.
