Liverpool Cheers as They Emerge as Favorites to Sign Salahs Successor After Two Key Factors Align

Liverpool cheers as they emerge as favorites to sign 'Salah's successor' after two key factors align. The Reds are optimistic about securing their new star.

On 3 June 2026 GMT+7, Santi Aouna, a renowned French football transfer journalist, revealed that Yann Diomandé, the rising winger of the Ivory Coast national team for the 2026 World Cup, has made a decision regarding his future. He has been targeted by two leading European clubs, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Santi Aouna stated that Yann Diomandé has decided to transfer this summer, despite his current club RB Leipzig in Germany's Bundesliga wanting him to stay for another season to compete in the UEFA Champions League.

However, 19-year-old Yann Diomandé is ready for a new challenge. After moving from Spain's Segunda División club Leganés to Leipzig just a year ago, he has played 36 matches in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists, helping Leipzig finish third in the Bundesliga and qualify for the UCL.

Aouna also revealed that although PSG has had multiple discussions with Leipzig and the player's agent, the two-time UEFA Champions League winners from France remain hesitant to pay the hefty transfer fee set around 100 million euros. This hesitation could open the door for Liverpool to sign Yann Diomandé instead.

Meanwhile, the local Liverpool Echo reported that Yann Diomandé prefers moving to the Premier League over joining Bayern Munich, the German Bundesliga powerhouse also interested in him. The player shows less enthusiasm about working with the 'Bavarian giants' compared to playing in England.

This situation gives Liverpool a strong chance to acquire Yann Diomandé as Mohamed Salah's replacement, following Salah's departure after nine years at Anfield this summer. However, the final deal depends on reaching an agreement with RB Leipzig.
