Liverpools New Signing Faces Immediate Setback After Transfer Announcement, Impacting 2026 World Cup

Liverpool's new signing has immediately encountered bad news following the transfer announcement, affecting the 2026 World Cup.

On 19 June 2026, Liverpool, a prominent English Premier League club, received unfortunate news after announcing the signing of Víctor Muñoz, a Spanish international winger for the 2026 World Cup, having paid Osasuna of Spain's La Liga a £34.5 million release clause.

Liverpool beat Newcastle United to secure Víctor Muñoz on a six-year contract. He has already passed his medical in the United States, with only the approval of his work permit and international transfer documentation remaining.

However, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced, "During the scheduled individual rehabilitation process, Muñoz suffered an additional muscle injury, which will delay his return to competition."

"Whether he will be able to play in upcoming matches depends on his recovery progress and rehabilitation over the next few days," they added.

Víctor Muñoz, aged 22, missed Spain’s opening 2026 World Cup match in Group H, a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde on Monday, 15 June, and may also miss the remaining two group games against Saudi Arabia on 21 June and Uruguay on 26 June.
