Liverpool celebrates as it nears signing the '2026 World Cup star' to bolster the squad, with just one step remaining.
On 23 June 2026, Team Talk, a well-known English football media outlet, reported that Liverpool, a top Premier League club, is close to signing 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande, who has impressed during the 2026 World Cup.
Liverpool wants Yan Diomande to replace Mohamed Salah, who has left the club after nine years at Anfield. Their main competitor is Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 champions and two-time UEFA Champions League winners in recent years.
Recently, Team Talk, citing French media Media Foot, revealed that Liverpool has reached a personal agreement with Yan Diomande, while PSG has refused to meet the high transfer fee and withdrawn from negotiations.
Media Foot stated, "After monitoring his performance and initial talks, both Liverpool and PSG have reached conclusions on this matter. According to our sources, there is mutual understanding between the English club and Diomande's representatives."
"The remaining step is for the club's management to persuade RB Leipzig to agree on the transfer fee."
Last week, The Athletic reported that Liverpool offered €100 million (£86.8 million) for Yan Diomande, but RB Leipzig immediately rejected it. The Bundesliga club demands €130 million (£112.05 million).
If Liverpool successfully agrees on the fee with Leipzig, Yan Diomande will become the second 2026 World Cup player to join Liverpool this summer, following Spanish youngster Victor Munoz, who joined after Liverpool paid his £34.5 million release clause to Osasuna.
