Manchester United Loses Out as Target Player Joins Premier League Rival

The "Red Devils," Manchester United, have suffered a heavy blow as their target player has reached an agreement to move to another team.

Fabrizio Romano declared his signature phrase HERE WE GO!!! Tottenham Hotspur, known as the "Spurs," have beaten Manchester United in securing Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million.

Both Spurs and Manchester United had identified the 21-year-old Fernandes as a primary summer transfer target. West Ham was open to offers from both clubs, while Fernandes himself was willing to join either team. His agent, Jorge Mendes, negotiated with both sides.

However, recent reports indicate that Spurs won the race for Fernandes by agreeing to pay the £85 million transfer fee without issue. This deal sets a new club record, surpassing the £65 million paid to sign Dominic Solanke in 2024.

Manchester United were not prepared to meet the transfer fee and wage demands that Spurs were able to offer.

Fernandes will become Spurs' fifth signing this summer, following Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Martin Dúbravka.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will need to explore other midfield options after missing out on this summer transfer target.
