Manchester United target has made his decision after the Red Devils expressed interest in signing him.
On 9 July 2026, Fabrice Hawkins, a well-known French football transfer journalist, reported that Manchester United, a Premier League club, missed out on signing Aurelien Tchouameni, one of their summer midfield targets.
Fabrice Hawkins stated that Real Madrid, competing in La Liga, have agreed to extend the contract of French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni until June 2031, putting an end to transfer rumors this summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United, despite long-standing interest, never came close to signing Tchouameni due to his high wage demands, and Real Madrid did not allow a transfer this summer, so negotiations never progressed.
Additionally, new coach Jose Mourinho wants Aurelien Tchouameni to remain at Real Madrid, with the club expected to announce the contract extension soon.
For Manchester United, this marks their fourth missed midfield target this summer: Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes (both moved to Spurs), Elliot Anderson (joined Manchester City), and now Aurelien Tchouameni (who extended at Real Madrid).
Recently, Manchester United surprised many by completing the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andre Santos from Chelsea, another Premier League club, for a total fee of £50 million, with the player agreeing to a five-year contract.
