Clear: Iraola Reveals First Two Priorities to Bring Liverpool Back as Title Contenders

Clear: Iraola reveals the first two things he will do to lead Liverpool back to being title contenders.

On 13 July 2026 GMT+7, Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's new manager, gave his first press conference with the club ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season, following his two-year contract appointment succeeding Arne Slot.

When asked about the first message he wants to convey to the fans after taking charge at Liverpool, Iraola said he aims to restore the team’s aggressive style and make Reds fans proud of their return as title contenders. "That's a very good question. I want to build a team that makes them feel proud."

"For me, football, especially at a club like Liverpool, is about building connections — both with people and with the supporters."

"I've been on the opposing side at Anfield before, and I've experienced that atmosphere... I often recall when Federico Chiesa scored in the opening match last season. It was incredible! (Liverpool won Bournemouth 4-2)"

"You can feel the power of this stadium, and I want that atmosphere at every game we play. It has to start with us, with what happens on the pitch. We need to be a hard-working, intense, and aggressive team so everyone feels connected and comfortable supporting this team."

Regarding squad reinforcements, the new Liverpool manager stated, "Of course, we have signed two new players (Jérémy Doku and Víctor Muñoz), but we still need more players. We all understand this well, and the club is working on it."

"From a coach's perspective, ideally, I would want players to join from day one so they are ready for preseason training."

"But we also understand that football doesn't always work that way. I know the club is working hard to bring those players in, and I am doing my part to help as well."
