Liverpool is on alert as the world's fourth richest person eyes acquiring a stake, with the club's valuation poised to soar.
On 22 July 2026, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, has been approached to join a group of investors negotiating to acquire shares in Liverpool, a leading team in England's Premier League.
Sky Sports reported that Jeff Bezos has discussed joining an investment group led by Amit Phatia, former co-owner of Queens Park Rangers and son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal, the steel magnate billionaire.
However, sources indicate there is still no certainty whether Jeff Bezos will proceed with investing in Liverpool.
The billionaire owner of Amazon and Blue Origin, who also owns The Washington Post newspaper, is estimated by Forbes magazine to have a wealth nearing 257 billion U.S. dollars, making him the world's fourth richest individual.
Reports also state that Jeff Bezos previously considered bidding to buy the Seattle Seahawks, the latest Super Bowl champions, and the Washington Commanders, another NFL team, but ultimately did not proceed with purchasing either team.
If Jeff Bezos decides to invest in Liverpool, it would be quite surprising, despite recent continuous inflows of U.S. investment into England's top football league.
The investor group led by Amit Phatia and supported by the Mittal family has hired advisors to work on a potential deal with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of Liverpool.
FSG is a U.S.-based company controlled by John Henry; it purchased Liverpool for £300 million in 2010 and also owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
According to the Financial Times, a deal with the investor group led by Phatia would value Liverpool at over 6 billion U.S. dollars (or £4.5 billion).
