Man United Decides After Danny Welbeck Linked with Chelsea

Man United has made a decision after Danny Welbeck was linked with Chelsea.

The Athletic, a prominent UK media outlet, reported that Manchester United, nicknamed the "Red Devils," will not consider competing to sign Danny Welbeck, the English striker of Brighton, back to Old Trafford. This follows news that the player is close to moving to the "Blues" Chelsea.

Welbeck, who will turn 36 in November, is viewed by Chelsea as an experienced player with leadership qualities to strengthen their young squad. Last season, he performed excellently, scoring 13 Premier League goals in 2025–26—the highest tally of his career—surpassing his previous best of 10 goals in 2024–25.

Chelsea is currently negotiating to sign Welbeck, and recent reports indicate that Manchester United, one of Welbeck's former teams, will not try to outbid or intercept Chelsea’s move to acquire him. This is despite opinions that the Red Devils should have a striker to share the burden with Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko, 23, had an impressive first season with United, netting 11 Premier League goals in 30 matches, though he faced some injury setbacks. He is the only natural number 9 striker in Manchester United’s senior squad. However, the club believes Brian Mbeumo and Mateus Cunha can also fill that role, with Marcus Rashford as an additional option.

The management will reconsider signing a new striker if Rashford leaves the team. He spent last season on loan at Barcelona, who did not make the move permanent. Thus, Rashford’s future remains uncertain.
